If You Really Want to Give Camping a Try...

Michigan State Campgrounds offer a program to try out camping. It costs only $20.00. This is what it includes:

  • First Time Camper Informational Welcome Kit
  • Park ranger to help you set up camp
  • Two Nights of Camping
  • Gear provided by Gander Mountain:
    • tent ∗
    • tarp ∗
    • flashlight ∗
    • lantern ∗
    • stove ∗
    • (4) hot dog /marshmallow cookers ∗
    • (2) fishing poles ∗
    •
    • ∗ These items are lent to you by Gander Mountain. They must be returned.
Here is the website. I hope you will give camping a try.

If you are one of my classmates from O.U. and come to Algonac State Campground let me know and I can set you up with campfire wood and give you some pointers.

  1. Do you know how much it is regularly, if you are not a first timer? Or does that depend on the campground you want to go to? I really like Adison Oaks, but I haven't been out there in a few years.

  2. I believe that if you have never participated in this particular program you can call yourself a first timer. I did not see Adison Oaks listed. Normally you pay around $25 a night and you bring your own gear and set up yourself. This program includes 2 nights, help setting up, and basic gear (but not all the gear) that you will need. Check out the link I posted and you can see which parks are involved.

This is a great way to find out if camping is for you or not without having to spend the money on the gear.
